Well, I haven't updated my website in awhile, so I figured it needed a fresh new look to it. I have really changed my fleet this past year and have gone with all gas powered aircraft. Last spring I ended up making the decision that bigger is better and sold off all of my glow powered planes. The cost of the planes, of course, went up, so now instead of having 6-8 planes, I am going to go down to 3 gas planes (Plus a few Foamies !) The bigger planes fly so much better and they really get your blood pumping when you get them down low, which makes for a little more excitement.
I have added a few new planes over the winter and also lost one of my favorites in the fall of last year. So the D&L Edge has been moved to the past planes pages. The plane was lost due to a rudder servo failure. The rudder servo locked up at full 3D deflection, plus a little. The "little" put the rudder horn into the side of the plane and the rudder itself pinned the elevator. The end result was a very nice flat spin, that went all the way to the ground. All I was able to do was cut the engine and watch the plane go in. The engine and radio gear, except the rudder servo, survived the crash, but the airframe was a total loss.
I added a new scratch built ProCraft Extra 300S to the fleet in the middle of last year. ProCraft is a fairly new company that is carrying a slight variation of the older Ohio Models aircraft line. The planes from ProCraft have been updated to help lighten the airframe and make the planes fly a little better. I ordered plans, cowl and canopy and started building. The plane came out great and is powered by a Brison 3.2. The final weight was 15.5 lbs and it flys simply awesome. I thought my D$L Edge flew good, but this plane tops it ! I have been really getting comfortable with the Extra 300S and it has really helped inprove my flying over the past few months. I really look forward to flying this plane alot more this year.
The newest plane to hit the air early this year is a Colombo Anderson 31% Extra 300L. I built this plane over the winter months from a kit. It went together really well and is powered by a Brison 4.8 Twin. Currently it has about half a dozen flights on it and the plane flys great. The Brison has more than enough power to do all the 3D I want to do. Now it is just a matter of getting time on the airframe and used to the way it flys. I can really see this plane becomming my favorite flyer this year.
I have also gotten back into electric planes this year, with the addition of a Fancy Foam Edge 540. Well since trying indoor, I have went through a couple of airframes. Currently I am working on a Fancy Foam Extra 300, which will be painted in the same scheme as my 31% Extra. The other hot project for the season is a Wild Hare 28% 300LX, which will be powered by a 3W 60. The plane is comming together pretty nicely, and should hopefully hit the air in the next few weeks.
